There is magic in yoga. It's something I knew after surviving my first hot yoga class. The glimpse of self I found on my mat kept me coming back. In a decade of continued exploration, I've realized I have at least a lifetime of learning within the yoga tradition - my practice and teaching are ever evolving.
To me, yoga is not a way of escaping or fixing myself, but rather, a coming home to myself. This practice helps me accept and celebrate the person I am, love the life I have and live it a little more skillfully. With humour and careful guidance I hope to enable this same gift for those I teach. Come to your mat and let me guide you in a well aligned re-connection to self.
I found yoga in search of the ever elusive restful sleep cycle. As a young mom, I had a hard time transitioning from a busy day of second guessing every parenting decision I made, into a relaxed sleep. When my children were young I heard about yoga and I attended my very first class and began my practice at Yogadown. Full circle moment. With a few phone calls to friends who had attended yoga, I made my way to the store to purchase my very own set of yoga pants, towel and a mat (this same towel is still with me!). What I found when I got to my first drop in class wasn't just a solution to my sleeping problems, it was love at first savasana! The most important thing my yoga practice has taught me is to simply practice. Practice when I don't feel like, practice when I'm injured and practice when I resist. Through spreading my mat out in a studio, at home or in a hotel I change my emotional state and something happens to my being. Magic, I'm sure.
Exploring the different aspects of yoga has kept my focus and increased my passion daily for yoga. At times it can feel overwhelming to realize just how much you don't know about yoga and at the same time that is the most exciting thing in life, learning. Seeking knowledge and knowing that there will always be more. I am ignited by anyone who is authentic and true to themselves, I see that as such strength. I am inspired every single day by truth and self love. I love that Yogadown works so hard to make sure that everyone is included. That no one is left feeling alone, and instead can begin to feel All One. There is a very strong community at Yogadown, with the teachers, staff and students all connecting and supporting one another.
In 2013 my whole world changed when I chose to walk down a new path by starting with signing up for a yoga teacher training. Through yoga, I have discovered the true potential that I have in this world. The potential to touch the lives of others in a deep and profound way. Yoga is teaching me how to live fully with my eyes and heart completely open to possibility. For me, yoga is like the Maori proverb, “Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.”
I am not just a yoga teacher I am also a school teacher and I love guiding the children and youth in our community to be their best selves. I the tools from being a school teacher was helpful while integrating into teaching yoga. I feel lucky and blessed to be able to do what I do, with a lot of love and joy to help lead the way.
“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

Theresa's deep love for the Teachings of Yogi Bhajan comes through her classes in different themed series. Each class offers a practical way to apply and integrate the wisdom of Kundalini Yoga into everyday life, helping each student find balance and harmony.
Theresa is an Internationally Certified Level 1 & 2 Kundalini Yoga Teacher. She is also enrolled in the Aquarian Teacher Academy, training to become a Teacher Trainer of Kundalini Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan.
Jamie Mathiasen first met yoga in 1997 during one of a thousand conversations about 'the meaning of life' and a good friend suggested she go to a yoga class. Skeptical that the answers to life could be found while balancing on her head, she went to her first class and like many students, realized yoga was much more than exercise. She fell in love with the space that her yoga practice created for her to feel her body and find stillness in her otherwise hectic life. She completed a 500 hour training in Hatha Yoga and a 70 hour Yin Certification with Bernie Clark.
Her passion and focus shifted to Therapeutic Yoga where she has completed a 1000 hour Internationally recognized Yoga Therapy Certification. She has completed Level I & II of Rhythmic Movement Therapy (RMTi) a movement based, primitive (infant or neo-natal) reflex integration programme that uses developmental movements, gentle isometric pressure and self-awareness to rebuild the foundations necessary to help overcome learning, sensory, emotional and behavioural challenges. She has recently began studying Trauma-Sensitive Yoga with David Emerson. In 2016, Jamie Co Founded the Canadian Institute of Therapeutic Yoga, offering Yoga Teacher Trainings at the 200 hr, 300 hr and Therapeutic Certification levels.
I searched for years to find myself and asked the universe for a way to make my life more fulfilling. I wanted connect the dots of my interesting and tremulous life.
Yoga found me at a perfect time when my daughter, Jerusha invited me to come and do yoga with her. Once I got deeper into my practice, I realized that I am on a journey like no other. I also realized that l have a huge, huge love for yoga, because I have learnt so much about myself and I have changed my life for the better. Now I want to share my passion for yoga with everyone. That was why I decided to become a teacher. As a Teacher I strive to inspire my students by sharing from my own experiences. I am passionate about the possibility for people to create their own life changing transformation. I love seeing yoga students dig deeper into their practice and blossom to live fully in and out of the yoga room.

Allison has been practicing yoga since 2008. She was initially drawn to yoga based on recommendations from both her family doctor and physiotherapist to aid in the healing process from a motor vehicle accident in 2007. In 2010 she graduated from the 200 hour Hatha Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training at De La Sol Yoga Studios. She has also completed 40 hours of Restorative Yoga Teacher Training with Andrea Peloso and 20 hours of Yin Yang Yoga Teacher Training with Erin Aquin. Tanya [ E-RYT ]
Yoga has taught me to absorb each moment separately; to overcome anticipation and find contentment in the present; to listen to my body and seek awareness of my mind; to constantly strive to be pro-active rather than re-active; to overcome judgement and seek out compassion.
Yoga allows for the unique opportunity to become fully aware of your connection to your mind and your body – each time you step into your practice you learn something that allows you to deepen that connection. I have enjoyed getting to know myself better through my own practice and have found it equally gratifying to be able to share in the experience of others.
[Owner & Co-Director E-CYT]
Throughout my life I have learned many lessons that in truth are gifts. The most valuable and powerful of them came from yoga. Yoga has helped open a beautiful connection to know my body on a deeper level so that I may also know my mind. Over the years I have seen shifts from my practice, that gave me the ability to see with new eyes, love with an open heart and witness the beauty in life. By being on my path and living from my heart, life is blissful, passionate and peaceful. Teaching yoga with others is amazing and I know I am meant to be here sharing my experiences, to help others find love, empowerment and peace in their own lives.
Although I teach yoga, I will be always be a student of yoga; like a tree, rooted deeply, always growing toward the sky, and changing with the seasons. There is no end. My journey is eternal.
