Q: Have you noticed any change in your mental or physical abilities after practicing yoga consistently for over a year?
Mark: Yeah, quite a lot. I think that the little things such as improving the circulation in my feet which changed the way my toenails grew… its a real thing… Also, my muscles that were injured years ago that used to haunt me are now fading back into healthiness, and overall experiences like savasana teaches me how to sleep. I use savasana as a tool when I go to sleep in order to shut off, relax every muscle and breathe properly.
Brigitte: I've noticed some physical changes in my knee but for me, I’ve noticed an internal change mostly. I have become more patient. I now live in the moment and stop thinking about “where I need to be” because yoga has taught me that what has happened in the past doesn’t matter. Being in the moment more has been helpful in slowing down and checking in with both myself and others.
What is the quality you admire most about your partner?
Mark on Brigitte:
There are many so aspects of her personality, and there aren’t enough adjectives but if there was only one… strong.. maybe two… fast and strong, three? nerve- racking. I am the introvert and she is the extrovert!
Brigitte on Mark:
The qualities you admire in your partner change over time, right now, it is the internal strength and commitment that we have towards one another. He is strong, slow… not in a bad sense but slower-paced, steady and thoughtful.
Q: What originally brought you to our studio?
Brigitte: We love yogadown specifically because of it’s simple acceptance of each person that walks through the door, we mean this genuinely because you’re welcomed… you are accepted in the room for your level and where you are at.
Mark: What brought us here was a Christmas gift from Brigitte with the opening times of the studio. The intention of the gift was to build a connection between the two of us so that we have something to do together. It was evident to me in the early stages that the character of every instructor and the range of people who come through the door (ranges of physical and mental health) is so refreshing; everyone is there… there is no "one kind" of physical or mental health.
Yogadown Studios is located in the heart of Olde Towne Okotoks and was established in 2007. Our core value is to have yoga accessible to all walks of life and grow a studio environment that is welcoming, connected and deeply rooted in community.
